Sydney Metro City and Southwest, Martin Place

Project: Sydney Metro City and Southwest, Martin Place

Project Overview: Sydney Metro is Australia's biggest public transport project. The Sydney Metro City and Southwest will consist of 13 stations along the Metro North West Line, including eight new Metro Stations and five upgraded Stations. Martin Place is one of the stations undergoing an upgrade as part of the Sydney Metro project.

Our Role: Kenny Constructions are engaged to construct the permanent lining in Martin Place station with includes the construction of invert bases and concrete to the arch lining caverns. Each cavern is 15-meters high by nine meters wide, making the work complex and high-risk. Travel forms will be used to construct the main cavern and Doka frames utilised to construct the adits and cross passages.

Sydney Metro, Central Station

Project: Sydney Metro, Central Station

Project Overview: New Sydney Metro platforms are currently being delivered by Laing O'Rourke under Central Station as well as the landmark Central Walk - a new underground pedestrian concourse to help customers get around Sydney's busiest railway station.

Sydney Metro City & Southwest is a 30-kilometre extension of metro rail from the end of Sydney Metro North West at Chatswood under Sydney Harbour, through new CBD stations and south west to Bankstown. It is due to open in 2024 with seven new metro stations and 11 upgraded stations. Central Station Metro works form part of Sydney Metro City & Southwest. The renewal of Central Station is designed to cater for growing passenger numbers and improve accessibility.

Our role: Kenny Constructions were engaged by the Principal Contractor to undertake all concrete structure works for the intercity platforms and the north-south concourse level above the new metro station. The project is being constructed using a 'top down' construction methodology and involves excavation down to the new metro tunnels 27m below ground-level. After the removal of platforms 13, 14 and 15 at the beginning of the project, our team built the new intercity platforms which are being used as a traffic deck during the construction of the permanent structure

Project Overview: John Holland CPB Ghella (JHCPBG) have been contracted to design and construct the Tunnel and Station Excavation Works for Sydney Metro City and Southwest.

The works include, but are not limited to: twin 15.5-kilometre Sydney Metro rail tunnels from Chatswood to Marrickville, including under Sydney Harbour and the CBD, excavation and civil works for six new Metro stations and construction of two dive sites and a rail crossover cavern at Barangaroo. Excavation of a temporary shaft at Blues Point to retrieve tunnel boring machines, a substation shaft at Artarmon to provide power for future train operations and a precast facility at Marrickville to produce the concrete tunnel-lining segments were all in the project's scope too.

Our Role: Kenny Constructions have been engaged to construct 24 cast in-situ reinforced concrete cross passages, two reinforced concrete sumps and one enlarged cross passage between Chatswood and Blues Point. At each location we will construct a base slab and a centre arch lining using hydraulic steel forms. These passages are an important safety feature that allow people to move from one tunnel to the other in the event of an emergency. In addition to these works, we have been tasked with the construction of a sump and base slabs in the Chatswood dive, which will become the rail level slab in the new Chatswood Metro station.

WestConnex, The New M5 Motorway Operations Complex 3, Arncliffe Sydney

Project: WestConnex, The New M5 Motorway Operations Complex 3, Arncliffe Sydney

Project Overview: The New M5 Motorway will be supported by a permanent operational facility located in Arncliffe, Sydney. CDSJV is currently undertaking the construction of the WestConnex New M5 Project and The Motorway Operations Complex 3 (MOC3) in Arncliffe is part of this overarching contract.

Our Role: The Kenny Constructions' scope of work for the MOC3 concrete package includes the supply, design, installation and certification of formwork, fixing of reinforcement steel, and placement of concrete for in-situ concrete elements. The package also includes the placement of precast coffin beams, columns, slabs and walls and double walls for various complex structures. The structural elements of the project included, substation, exhaust shaft and supply shaft as well as the retaining walls surrounding the complex. The Kenny Constructions' team were heavily involved with the client during the construction methodology planning stage, to enable successful delivery of each complex structure.

Project: WestConnex, The New M5 Motorway Operations Complex 2, Bexley Road.

Project Overview: The Bexley Motorway Operations Complex will be located within the existing M5 linear parkland, alongside Bexley Road in Sydney. The Complex will have an approximate height of 13 metres from ground level. The CDSJV is currently undertaking the design and construction of the WestConnex, New M5 in Sydney, of which the Motor Operations Complex located at Bexley Road, is part of.

Our Role: Kenny Constructions are engaged by CDSJV to construct all concrete structure works within the Motorway Operations Complex 2, located on Bexley Road, Sydney. This includes the construction of a vent building with five levels of slabs, columns and installation of pre-cast wall panels. A substation consisting of three levels of in-situ columns, slabs and walls with pre-cast wall cladding and retaining walls and footing are also part of the Kenny Constructions scope of works.

WestConnex New M5, Road Tunnel Infrastructure

Project: WestConnex New M5, Road Tunnel Infrastructure

Project Overview: As part of the overall Westconnex project, the New M5 tunnel has been designed to alleviate congestion on the old M5 Tunnel and to connect with the recently opened M4 WestConnex tunnel.

Our Role: Kenny Constructions are engaged by the Principle Contractor to construct the cross passages, long egress passages, Type F concrete traffic barriers, construction of the low-point sump and installation of structural precast concrete beams and planks. The construction of the low-point sump includes a single-sided, six-meter-high in situ walls.

Cross River Rail, Brisbane

Project: Cross River Rail, Brisbane

Project Overview: Cross River Rail is a new 10.2 kilometre rail line from Dutton Park to Bowen Hills, which includes 5.9 kilometres of twin tunnels under the Brisbane River and the CBD.
South East Queensland's population is rising, putting the transport network under pressure.
The current rail network is already nearing capacity and is constrained by a single river crossing and just four inner-city stations, causing the bottleneck that limits our ability to run more trains.

Our Role: Kenny Constructions have been engaged by CBGU to deliver early works packages for the enabling infrastructure setup on the Project. This consists of some site access development work such as driveways, footpaths and hoarding. Other Packages of works which are yet to commence include acoustic shed footings, slabs and capping beams. The below are conceptual images of how the project will look upon completion.

Sydney Metro City, Victoria Cross Station

Project Overview: Forming an integral part of the Sydney Metro system, Victoria Cross Station is an underground station, over 30 meters below ground-level, located in the heart of the North Sydney Business District.

Our Role: Kenny Constructions are engaged to construct the permanent lining for Victoria Cross Station, which includes the construction of three-metre-deep invert slabs using an innovative prefabricated steel reinforcement cages solution. The concrete package also includes the cavern permanent lining structure. Travelling steel hydraulic forms will be used to construct the main cavern and Doka frames will be utilised to construct the adits and cross passages. The Kenny Constructions' team will also deliver complex structures, such as pedestrian adit tunnels, lift adits into cavern roof and escalator shaft tunnel linings.

Project: WestConnex, The New M5 Motorway Operations Complex 1, Kingsgrove, Sydney.

Project Overview: CDSJV were contracted to design and construct the WestConnex New M5 in Sydney. The Motorway Operations Complex 1, located in Kingsgrove, was part of the broader project. 

Our Role: Kenny Constructions were engaged by CDSJV to install pre-cast concrete wall panels in a ventilation building. The structure consisted of 2.4-metre-high, pre-cast wall panels, 10 rows high with internal pre-cast slabs to support extraction fans. We also supplied scaffolding via our partner company An-CO, which enabled safe access while construction took place on each of building level.

Sydney Metro Northwest Rail Link, Castle Hill Station.

Project: Sydney Metro Northwest Rail Link, Castle Hill Station.

Principal Contractor: A joint venture between Thiess John Holland and Dragados (TJHDJV)

Project Overview: The Northwest Rail Link was a major contract awarded in 2013 for a heavy rapid rail transit link to the North-Western suburbs of Sydney. Under the $1.15 billion Tunnel and Station Civil Works contract, TJHDJV constructed twin 15-kilometre tunnels which now run between Bella Vista and Epping. These are the longest rail tunnels ever built in Australia.  Customers started using the new Norwest Rail Link in May 2019.

Our Role: The Kenny Constructions team were contracted to deliver the Station Structures package at Castle Hill, Sydney Metro Station. The package involved the construction of all concrete structural elements including installation of structural and architectural concrete façade pre-cast. The station spanned almost 250 meters long by 25 meters wide, with the platforms located 22 meters below street level. This complex project was delivered on-time; commencing in July 2017 and handed over in March 2019.

Project Overview: As part of the Sydney Metro Northwest Project, Service buildings located at Epping and Cheltenham were constructed. These facilities were required to service the rail tunnels in both these Sydney locations.

Our Role: The Kenny Constructions' team successfully delivered the Epping and Cheltenham Station structures, precast install, retaining walls and concrete pavements.

Project: Sydney Metro Northwest Rail Link, Showground Station

Project Overview: Showground Station was part of the Sydney Metro Northwest Rail Link project that officially opened to customers in May 2019. The redevelopment of the Showground Station precinct transformed the area into a vibrant urban centre.

Our Role: The Showground Station project scope for the Kenny Constructions' team included concrete station structures, precast install, retaining walls and concrete pavements.

Project Overview: The Sydney Metro Northwest Rail Link project has delivered a 'turn up and go rail' service from Rouse Hill to Chatswood. Kellyville, Cudgegong and Rouse Hill Stations were crucial components of the new Northwest Rail Link that started operating for customers in May 2019.

Our Role: The Kenny Constructions' team successfully delivered stone and concrete paving, crossovers and medians at these three Northwest Rail Link stations.

WestConnex Stage 1A, M4 Widening

Project: WestConnex Stage 1A, M4 Widening
Client: Sydney Motorway Corporation

Project Overview: New elevated roads were built and the existing Sydney M4 Motorway widened to create four lanes in each direction from Parramatta to Homebush. The additional lane and improved access onto the M4 were designed to ease congestion for motorists and fix the significant bottle-neck at James Ruse Drive. The distance of the project site was 7.5km and the project was successfully delivered in 2019.

Our Role: The Kenny Constructions' team were engaged to design and construct a significant and varied concrete solutions package including structures, precast install, retaining walls, concrete pavements, architectural panelling and M&E fit-out.

WestConnex Stage 1A, M4 Widening

Project: Schofields Road, Stage 2, Greater Western Sydney, NSW
Client: OHL-York Joint Venture, 2014-2016

Project Overview: Schofields Road, Stage 2 was part of a 3 Stage project aimed at enhancing the capacity of Schofields Road to cater for increased housing growth in the region. Stage 2 consisted of upgrades to the section of road between Tallawong Road and Veron Road.

Our Role: Kenny Constructions was engaged by OHL-York Joint Venture for the construction of Twin Bridges at First Ponds Creek, Bridge Street Overpass & a creek crossing bridge at Railway Terrace, which included construction of all concrete structural elements and installation of precast bridge beams & decks. All work carried out to RMS B80 Specifications.

Project Overview: Homebush Bay Bridge was a project where local developers grouped together to privately fund the construction of a bridge across Homebush Bay, linking Rhodes with Wentworth Point. Upon completion, the bridge was handed to RMS for use by public transport, cyclists and pedestrians.

Our Role: Kenny Constructions was engaged by VSL-Brady Joint Venture for the construction of bridge piers, headstocks and installation of precast bridge beams and jersey barriers. All work carried out to RMS B80 Specifications.

Project: Foxground and Berry Bypass, South Coast, NSW

Project Overview: The Foxground and Berry Bypass project was a significant transport infrastructure on the south coast of New South Wales. It provided a four-lane highway (2 lanes each direction) with median separation for 12.5 kms of the Princes Highway between Toolijooa Road and Schofields Lane. The upgrade included a bypass of the existing highway at Foxground and a bypass at Berry with access ramps at the north and south of the town

Our Role: Kenny Constructions was engaged by Fulton Hogan to undertake the construction of bridge structures retaining walls, installation of precast bridge beams and jersey barriers. All work carried out to RMS B80 Specifications

Project: Moreton Bay Rail Link, Queensland
Client:THIESS, 2014-15

Project Overview: The Morton Bay Rail Link was a major project which consisted of a 12.6 km passenger rail line between Petrie and Kippa-Ring, including 6 new rail stations at Kallangur, Murrumba Downs, Mango Hill, Mango Hill East, Rothwell and Kippa-Ring.

Our Role: Kenny Constructions was engaged by THEISS to deliver some of the concrete structures on the project, including construction of various bridge structures, capping beams, retaining walls, installation of precast bridge beams and concrete pavement works. All work carried out to Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads Specifications.

Project Overview: The Sydney Metro/Northwest Rail link project was awarded to Salini Impregilo to design and construct a 4 km skytrain section between Bella Vista and Rouse Hill including a landmark cablestay bridge over Windsor Road at Rouse Hill.

Our Role: Kenny Constructions was engaged by Salini Impregilo to deliver the cast in situ piers, headstocks and abutments, to manufacture the precast segments and also to install the precast segments on site. All work was carried out to RMS B80 Specifications.

Legacy Way Tunnel, Brisbane, Qld

Project: Legacy Way Tunnel, Brisbane, Qld
Client: Transcity JV, 2012-2015

Project Overview: The M5 Legacy Way Tunnel project is a 4.6 km tunnel linking the Western Freeway at Toowong and the Inner City Bypass at Kelvin Grove, Brisbane. The project consisted of two bored tunnels carrying two motorway grade lanes of traffic in each direction.

Our Role: Kenny Constructions was engaged by Transcity JV to undertake the construction of cross passages, substations, cast in situ corbel for smoke duct, retaining walls, jersey barriers and the installation of the architectural cladding. All work carried out to Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads Specifications.

GLNG Upstream Project, Queensland

Project: GLNG Upstream Project, Queensland
Client: Clough Downer JV, 2012-2014

Project Overview: The GLNG Upstream Project was a pioneering project to convert coal seam gas from the Surat and Bowen Basins in Queensland into Liquified natural gas. Upstream Facilities include wellhead facilities, gas and water gathering lines, gas compression, power generation and associated infrastructure. Following gathering and processing, coal seam gas will be transported via a gas export pipeline between the coal seam gas fields and an LNG plant at Curtis Island.

Our Role: Kenny Constructions was engaged by Clough Downer JV to deliver all concrete structures, earth moving, scaffolding, steel erection and rigging to the project.

Mains & Kessels Road, Brisbane, Queensland

Project: Mains & Kessels Road, Brisbane, Queensland
Client: Baulderstone, 2012-2014

Project Overview: The Mains and Kessels Roads project is part of the 11.5 km Brisbane Urban Corridor located in Macgregor, Brisbane. The intersection was upgraded to provide a short underpass beneath the Mains Road for the traffic coming from the Kessels Road. The upgrade also involved improving the turn and intersection lanes, as well as provision of new lanes for buses, pedestrians and cyclists.

Our Role: Kenny Constructions was engaged by Baulderstone to undertake the construction of bridge structures, retaining walls, jersey barriers, concrete pavements and footpaths. All work carried out to Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads Specifications.

Pacific Highway Tintenbar to Ewingsdale Upgrade, Northern NSW

Project: Pacific Highway Tintenbar to Ewingsdale Upgrade, Northern NSW
Client:Lendlease, 2012-2013

Project Overview: The Pacific Highway Tintenbar to Ewingsdale Upgrade was a project undertaken by Lend Lease to deliver the Tintenbar to Ewingsdale section of the Pacific Highway upgrade, approximately 17 kms in length this project started at the northern end of the Ballina bypass at Ross Lane and extending to the Ewingsdale interchange.

Our Role: Kenny Constructions was engaged by Lend Lease to undertake the construction of bridge structures, retaining walls, concrete pavements and jersey barriers. Kenny Constructions helped build the largest bridge of the entire project which consisted of a 7 span dual carriageway twin bridge, spanning over Byron Creek near the township of Bangalow. All work carried out to RMS B80 Specifications.

Blackwater Creek Diversion, Blackwater, QLD

Project: Blackwater Creek Diversion, Blackwater, QLD
Client: York Civil, 2011-2012

Project Overview: The Blackwater Creek Diversion project undertaken in the Curragh Mine, an open-cut mine near the town of Blackwater. The mine had to permanently divert Blackwater Creek and re-establish the ecological corridor, an approximate 10 km creek diversion. As part of the creek diversion numerous concrete spillway and energy dissapitors were required to be constructed.

Our Role: Kenny Constructions was engaged by York Civil for the delivery of these concrete structures, the project provided some challenges due to the remote location of the site.

Project: Airport Link, Brisbane, Queensland
Client:Thiess John Holland JV, 2010-2012

Project Overview: The Airport Link and Busway Project involved 15 km of tunnelling including the road (6.7 km of twin tunnels), busway tunnels and connecting ramps, as well as 25 bridges and result in over 7 km of new road. The Airport Link is Australia's longest road tunnel.

Our Role: Kenny Constructions was engaged by Theiss John Holland JV to undertake the construction of bridge structures, cross passages, sumps, retaining walls, jersey barriers and concrete pavements. All work carried out to Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads Specifications.

Urban Superway, Adelaide, South Australia

Project: Urban Superway, Adelaide, South Australia
Client: John Holland, Macmahon Contractors and Leed Engineering JV, 2011-2014

Project Overview: The Urban Superway project was a joint venture with Macmahon and Leed Engineering, John Holland to deliver a 4.8 km non-stop, multi-lane corridor connecting north and south Adelaide. Designed to improve traffic efficiency and management, whilst also enhancing road safety and local accessibility for the growing population.

Our Role: Kenny Constructions was engaged by the Urban Superway Joint Venture to undertake the construction of bridge piers, headstocks, bridge deck slabs & architectural panelling. All work carried out to South Australian Roads Specifications.

Project Overview: The Eastern Busway project is a bus-only road running from the University of Queensland's St Lucia campus to Langlands Park busway station in Queensland.

Our Role: Kenny Constructions was engaged by Leighton Contractors to undertake the construction of bridge structures, sumps, retaining walls and jersey barriers. All work carried out to Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads Specifications.

Project Overview: The Clem Jones Tunnel (CLEM7) project, formerly the North South Bypass Tunnel, is a tolled motorway linking the Pacific Motorway (M3) and Ipswich Road at Woolloongabba to Lutwyche Road and the Inner-City Bypass (ICB) at Bowen Hills.  The 6.8 km toll road includes twin, two-lane 4.8 km tunnels.

Our Role: Kenny Constructions was engaged by Leighton Baulderstone Bilfinger JV  to undertake the construction of bridge structures, cross passages, sumps, retaining walls, jersey barriers and concrete pavements. All work carried out to Department of Transport and Main Roads Specifications.

Lane Cove Tunnel, Sydney, NSW

Project: Lane Cove Tunnel, Sydney, NSW
Client: Thiess John Holland JV, 2005-2007

Project Overview: The Lane Cove Tunnel project was a A$1.1 billion 3.6 km twin tunnel tollway in Sydney which connects the M2 Motorway at North Ryde with the Gore Hill Freeway at Artarmon. It was intended to replace the few kilometres motorists had to drive along Epping Road, through the suburb of Lane Cove, between two sections of freeway.

Our Role: Kenny Constructions was engaged by Thiess John Holland JV to undertake the construction of retaining walls, jersey barriers and concrete pavements. All work carried out to RMS B80 Specifications.

Epping to Chatswood Line, Sydney, NSW

Project: Epping to Chatswood Line, Sydney, NSW
Client:Thiess & Hochtief, 2003-2008

Project Overview: The Epping to Chatswood Line project was undertaken by Thiess and Hochtief JV as a joint venture which included the design and construction of a railway and four fully mined stations. The first phase of the line opened on 23 February 2009 as a shuttle service between Epping and Chatswood.

Our Role: Kenny Construction was engaged to undertake the construction of the tunnel pavement slab.

Warragamba Deep Water Storage Recovery Project, Warragamba, NSW

Project: Warragamba Deep Water Storage Recovery Project, Warragamba, NSW
Client: Baulderstone Hornibrook, 2006-2007

Project Overview: The Warragamba Deep Water Storage Recovery Project, part of the Metropolitan Water Plan, was built to access water in the deepest part of the dam below the current intake port which resulted in the immediate availability of an additional 170 billion litres of sustainable water. The project constructed a new pumping station downstream of the dam. The new pumping station is within the Emergency Scheme pumping station chamber.

Our Role: Kenny Constructions was engaged by Baulderstone Hornibrook to undertake the construction of the deep-water retention storage tank.

Project: Westlink M7, Sydney, NSW
Client: Abiroup & Leighton Contractors JV, 2003-2005

Project Overview: The Westlink M7 project was a major project connecting three motorways: M5 South Western Motorway at Prestons, M4 Western Motorway at Eastern Creek and M2 Hills Motorway at Baulkham Hills. It opened on 16 December 2005, eight months ahead of schedule.

Our Role: Kenny Constructions was engaged by Abiroup & Leighton Contractors JV to undertake the construction of the bridges, retaining walls, jersey barriers and concrete pavements. All work carried out to RMS B80 Specifications.

Cross City Tunnel, Sydney, NSW

Project: Cross City Tunnel, Sydney, NSW
Client: Baulderstone Hornibrook Bilfinger & Berger Joint Venture (BHBBJV), 2003-2005

Project Overview: The Cross City Tunnel project was a 2.1 km long twin tunnel tollway located in Sydney. It links Darling Harbour on the western fringe of the central business district to Rushcutters Bay in the eastern suburbs. The tunnel is actually two distinct tunnels and they largely follow a route underneath William Street and Park or Bathurst Streets, depending on whether it is eastbound or westbound.

Our Role: Kenny Constructions was engaged to undertake the construction of the viaduct, bridges, sumps, retaining walls, jersey barriers and concrete pavements. All work carried out to RMS B80 Specifications.

Project: North-West T-Way, Sydney, NSW
Client: Leighton Contrators, 2003

Project Overview: The North-West T-way project is a continuous series of bus-only lanes and bus roadways between Parramatta, Blacktown and Rouse Hill in Western Sydney. Opened in stages between March and November 2007, the 24 km T-way was the second bus rapid transit route to be built in Sydney after the LiverpoolParramatta T-way.

Our Role: Kenny Constructions was engaged by Leighton Contractors to undertake the construction of stormwater pits, culverts, retaining walls, jersey barriers and concrete pavements. All work carried out to RMS B80 Specifications.

M5 East Motorway, Sydney, NSW

Project: M5 East Motorway, Sydney, NSW
Client: Baulderstone Hornibrook Bilfinger & Berger Joint Venture, 2000-2001

Project Overview: The M5 East project was the construction of a 10 km public motorway which connects the CBD, Sydney Airport and the M5 South West Motorway. The M5 East is 10 km in length and runs in both directions between General Holmes Drive and the M5 South West Motorway.

Project: The Eastern Distributor, Sydney, NSW

Project Overview: The Eastern Distributor is a 6 km long motorway in Sydney which is 75.1% owned by toll road operator Transurban. It is part of the M1 and links the Sydney Central Business District (CBD) with the Airport. The centrepiece is a 1.7 km tunnel running from Woolloomooloo to Surry Hills.

Project: Sydney Olympic Park, Greater Sydney, NSW
Client: Leighton Contractors, 1999-2000

Project Overview: The Sydney Olympic Park project was the development of a large sports and entertainment complex in the west of Sydney for the 2000 Sydney Olympics. It is an official suburb of Greater Sydney and is located 15 kms west of the Sydney central business district. The suburb also contains commercial development and extensive parklands and supports large sporting, musical and cultural events.

Our Role: Kenny Constructions was engaged by Leighton Contractors to undertake the construction of retaining walls, concrete structures and slabs.
